The British monarchy is celebrating this week with the happy news that 33-year-old, Princess Eugenie, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, has given birth to her second child.
Princess Eugenie announced the details on her Instagram account with a caption reading: “Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on 30th May 2023 at 8.49 weighing 7.1lbs.
“He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald. Augie is loving being a big brother already.”
The couple’s son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born in February 2021.
Princess Eugenie gave birth to her son at the Portland Hospital, which is known for its high-quality care and its discretion. It has a state-of-the-art neonatal unit, which can swiftly deal with any complications that may arise during or after the birth, and a team of experienced midwives and doctors who are used to delivering babies to members of the royal family.
Jack and Eugenie’s romance began in 2010 while on a ski trip in Verbier, Switzerland. They were both staying at the same hotel and were introduced by mutual friends and started dating shortly afterwards, and have been together ever since.
They got engaged in January 2018 while on vacation in Nicaragua and were married on October 12, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The wedding was attended by members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.
Jack Brooksbank is a former bartender and brand ambassador for Casamigos tequila. He is now the director of European brand development for the tequila company.
The news of Princess Eugenie’s new baby has been met with congratulations from the royal family and the public. The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex all sent their best wishes at the wonderful news.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are said to be “over the moon” about the new addition and are looking forward to enjoying home life with their new addition.
So where is Princess Eugenie’s second baby in the line of succession?
Ernest is 13th in line to the throne after his big brother, August.
The current line of succession is:
- 1. The Prince of Wales
- 2. Prince George of Wales
- 3. Princess Charlotte of Wales
- 4. Prince Louis of Wales
Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah, Duchess of York. Her elder sister is 35-year-old, Princess Beatrice.
The sisters both attended private schools in the United Kingdom. Princess Beatrice studied history at Goldsmiths, University of London, and Princess Eugenie studied English literature at Newcastle University.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are both involved in royal duties. They have represented the King at a number of events, and have also undertaken their own charitable work.
Eugenie is a patron of charities including Children in Crisis, Street Child, the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Young Epilepsy Association. They are believed to be close sisters, and they often support each other at public events.
Princess Beatrice who is ninth in line to the throne, is married to Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi, and had her first child in the autumn of 2022.
They were married in a private ceremony at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor on July 17, 2020.
Mozzi is an Italian businessman and the son of former Olympic skier Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi. He has a son from a previous relationship.
The happy baby news comes at a much-needed time after the royal family has had to cope with a number of challenges.
In 2021, the princesses father, Prince Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre, who had accused him of sexual assault. The settlement was reportedly worth $12 million. As part of the settlement, Prince Andrew agreed to make a public apology and to donate to Giuffre’s charity. He also agreed to never contact Giuffre again.
The allegations against Prince Andrew have however never been proven in court and he has always denied any wrongdoing.
Their cousin Prince Harry and his wife, American actress Meghan Markle, continue to be the source of constant speculation after stepping back from their royal duties and moving to America, where they gave a damaging tell all interview to Oprah Winfrey.
