Comedian and actress Kristen Wiig has been talking about her challenging journey with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) before finally embracing surrogacy to become a mother to her now 4-year-old twins.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wiig reflected on the difficulties she faced during the IVF process to have her children Shiloh and Luna, whom she shares with husband Avi Rothman.
It was a “struggle.” she says, emphasising the often hushed nature of discussions surrounding fertility treatments, and now at the age of 50, she hopes that sharing her experience can contribute to a broader conversation, stating, “It’s part of my story and part of how I got my amazing family.”
Opening up about the emotional toll of the IVF journey back in 2020, Wiig revealed to InStyle in 2020 that she and Rothman endured three years of treatments. She described it as “a profoundly challenging time, marked by constant stress, heartache, and the emotional rollercoaster of waiting for test results”.
Despite the hardships, Wiig is now happily enjoying motherhood and described it as “the best” experience, acknowledging the transformative effect it had on her perspective and the profound love she feels for her children.“
Overall it was a very beautiful thing, and now that I’m on the other side, I wouldn’t have had it any other way,” the mom of two said. “I’ve always believed that things happen the way they’re supposed to happen, and this is how [our babies] were supposed to get here”
