Fertility Nutrition

Fertility Nutrition

We talk about all the latest trends and advice, to help you plan your perfect fertility diet. Should I give up gluten for fertility?  Can I lose weight for IVF on a raw vegan diet? Is caffeine dangerous when you’re pregnant? There are so many questions, and often an overload of advice when you’re trying to conceive.

We explore the issue of fertility nutrition from a scientific point of view, analysing and explaining the latest trends and advice. Nutrition is so much more than food, and our scope includes supplements, ethics and sustainability too. Above all though, we are food lovers & we believe that eating well for conception, pregnancy and beyond can be an uplifting experience.

Our health journalists have a particular interest in the exciting new field of gut health and fertility.

Watch this inspiring story of Deborah and Mark the founders of Nua Fertility, and how their infertility journey made them develop their award winning supplements for men and women. The body’s invisible, living organism known as the microbiome can influence so many processes in the body, that it’s hardly a surprise to discover that it affects fertility too. We expect this area of study to become more important in the fight against both female and male infertility.  The recent discovery’s about the body’s “invisible organ” forms an integral part of our fertility health content.

best fertility cookbook

About to start a Fertility journey? Then a healthy diet and lifestyle are vital. We recommend ‘The Fertility Kitchen’ which has some incredible support:

Charlotte Grand created the Fertility Kitchen in 2016 following her own fertility struggles. Her five year journey to conceive her two sons led her to completely overhaul her diet and lifestyle and change her career from the fashion world to the fertility world.

When gearing up for her first IVF cycle she worked at being well in mind and body as much as possible and created her first recipe: a smoothie which she drank throughout her journey.  As well as regular acupuncture she started meditating daily, wrote affirmations for IVF, kept a gratitude journal, and moved her body every day and prioritised sleep.

She started to feel amazing and was able to breeze though IVF with no side effects from the medication.

This made us smile today!
It appears that certain mammals including kangaroos can pause the development of a pregnancy if conditions aren’t right for success.
Yes it’s true !
The scientific process is called ‘embryonic diapause’ which is a temporary halt in embryo development typically occurring at the blastocyst stage in mammals.
This reversible suspension allows the embryo to delay implantation.until conditions are more favourable for the mother and offspring.
Thanks to the amazing @babiesafter35 for drawing this to our attention. How awesome are kangaroos!

It’s great to see the above recommendation and happy ending, but sadly it’s rare to hear of IVF Clinics with over 80 percent success rates like this one.
We first heard about the @crpclinic in the UK, after interviewing Louise Warneford who suffered an astonishing 18 miscarriages before finally having success with Professor Shehata.
It took only one attempt with his protocol for her to have her beautiful baby boy.
If you want to find out more she’s written a useful book called ‘Baby Dreams’ which you can buy on Amazon.

So why did Lily Collins have a baby through surrogacy?

Although there’s been no official response as to why the 35 year old star of the hit Netflix series ‘Emily In Paris’, has used a surrogate to have a baby, a clue comes in her 2017 memoir ‘Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me’,

Lily – the daughter of musician Phil Collins – candidly described how an eating disorder had a devastating effect on her reproductive system. She revealed she used to eat ‘every type of junk food possible’ and then force herself to vomit. She said it stopped her menstrual cycle adding: ‘I was terrified I had ruined my chances of having kids.’

Life happens when you choose to quit IVF says our reporter Emma Kemsley with a smile.

She’s feeling rejuvenated after moving to the Costa Brava, and spending her first Christmas in her new home.

In her latest blog she wonders if she would be feeling so positive had her #ivf worked?

No is her answer because she says she’d likely be in the UK and knackered from a busy back to school routine.

She and her husband James and cute dog Fletcher, made the brave decision to quit IVF in April 2022. In her words they “got off the fertility merry-go-round and regained their freedom, sanity and finances”.

In 2023, after researching several European cities, they found their dream renovation project and relocated to Spain.

They haven’t looked back since and are happy to be childless by choice.

Read our heartbreaking new blog about TFMR by our brave reporter Emma Kemsley.

“I’m sorry, there’s nothing we can do to help your baby.” Those were the words I heard after a long ultrasound, peak pandemic, before being placed in a white room, alone, in an eerily quiet hospital. Losing a baby is hard in any circumstance, but when faced with the decision of termination for medical reasons (TFMR), suddenly it becomes an uncomprehensive emotional turmoil.

This is the decision I had to make after six cycles of IVF. It’s a heartbreaking choice for any expectant parent, but the weight of IVF made it even harder. I chose to end our baby’s life knowing I’d never be pregnant again. For me, there would never be another chance of conceiving. However, I put our child’s health and wellbeing before mine, and I’ve never regretted my decision.
